Les Fleurs

We live in the sub-tropics and people from up north are always surprised at how green and fertile New Orleans is.  It is.  It always smells like flowers in this city.  We live in a verdant place.  Did you know that you can make a living crafting paper mache flowers in New Orleans?  It’s a respected and necessary art form.  Mardi Gras floats need to be festooned with oversized paper flowers.  Wherever you go, life blossoms and blooms, fecund and virile, overripe and soft to the touch.  Welcome to New Orleans.

The front bedroom window opens to the front porch with a view of tranquil Esplanade Avenue and Gayarre Park.

The sky blue ceiling is complemented by one room painted in cheerful pink, and the other in rosy peach. No one can be unhappy in this suite. It is the perfect place to start a day, and a perfect place to end a night. There is a queen bed, a leather sofa and a well-stuffed red leather armchair.

The bath features an antique claw foot tub with a mounted shower head and curtains full of joie de vivre. The sink is in located in the bedroom, French-style, to permit privacy in the lavatory.

A display of original floral artwork is mounted over the sitting room mantle. There are two medallions featuring our favorite Gibson girls. The ceiling is hung with palm branches draped with Mardi Gras beads—you have to see it to believe it. The whole suite is very romantic, but also very comfortable even if you aren’t on your honeymoon.
