I can’t say that I was flabbergasted when I learned the news. I can say that I am still somewhat a bit agog that MSN has named us the 10th best and most unusual B&B in America. I always say that virtue is its own reward.
So, how did Microsoft Network, if I may use its old name, decide on this distinction? I can’t say that I know for sure. No one called me. I have no quibble with the description they’ve published but, let me tell you, the reality is much better and more unique than what’s described. There’s no mention of the museum in our lobby, for instance. Still, who am I to complain?
This isn’t the first time we’ve been placed on a list like this. Things happen for reasons.
We’ve recently been awarded the Oglethorpe Prize for world-class hospitality, for instance. We found the gold-plated statuette on our doorstep courtesy of UPS, no return receipt requested. We knew we were in the running but we didn’t actively campaign to win. Let the dice fall where as they may. Build it and they will come has always been my motto. Esplanade Avenue in New Orleans is Frau Schmitt’s and mine field of dreams.
I don’t much about baseball but I’ve learned a thing or two about innkeeping over the past couple of years. It’s nice to be recognized for being the best we can be. Our goal is always to be better at whatever voodoo it is that we do.
How many B&Bs are in the United States? If I were to hazard a guess, I would say 10,000 of various sizes in various locations all over this great nation of ours. I’m not talking about AirBnBs. We provide something different, more professional and more special. We happen to be lucky. We live in New Orleans. Wanna know what it’s like to live in New Orleans and experience it first hand in the round for yourself? I’ve got three words for you: La Belle Esplanade.
You know where to find us. You’re on our website. We only have five suites available at any given time. Ours is a small boutique operation that caters to the kind of travelers who are open to relaxed and amicable adventures embedded in one New Orleans’ most interesting neighborhoods. Click the blue button in the upper right hand corner to see what we have available for the dates you want to visit. It will be our pleasure to share what we know about this amazing city. We’ve built it. Are you ready?
À votre santé,
La Belle Esplanade
