I’ve got some good ideas for some upcoming blog posts. Today won’t feature any of them. This is pure filler, a place-holder. Read on. Good ideas are born in New Orleans but today’s installment isn’t one of them. We’re running on fumes today. If that doesn’t whet your appetite, nothing will. Welcome to The New Orleans State of Mind. Let’s proceed, shall we?
There is no such thing as a dull day in New Orleans. I live here and I’m never bored. If you are bored in New Orleans you have a wide and gaping hole in your imagination. Only boring people are bored. No one who lives in New Orleans is boring. New Orleans is a city full of colorful personalities. Just ask your humble narrator.
As an hotelier impresario, I get to meet people from all over the world who are visiting New Orleans for their first time. No one ever says their visit to or fair city is too long. The longer you stay in New Orleans, the more you’ll realize how much you haven’t experienced yet. New Orleans is a city that is dense and richly textured. Good memories are made on our street, Esplanade Avenue, every day.
It doesn’t matter who you are. It doesn’t matter where you are from. It doesn’t matter what language you speak. It doesn’t matter what you believe. When all is said and done, New Orleans will treat you right. Trust me. I see it happen every day in every way. Good memories, the best kind, are made in New Orleans. I can set your watch by it.
New Orleans loves you. It’s not just a catchphrase. It’s true. New Orleans is home to all sorts of interesting people, all of them friendly. New Orleans is the most welcoming city I’ve ever lived in. New Orleans is magical. New Orleans is wonderful. New Orleans is New Orleans and, saying that, there is nothing else left to say. New Orleans is ineffable.
Welcome to your New Orleans home. Home is where your heart is. Cupid will whisper in your right ear while you are walking around New Orleans. It happens. It happens every day.
New Orleans is a city full of welcoming, colorful characters who are invested in sharing what they know about this city to make you feel at home. Here is an example of one of them:
Frau Schmitt took that photo when we visited the Bl. Fr. Francis Xavier Seelos Shrine yesterday. It’s on Josephine Street in the Lower Garden District. Our days are full of minor key adventures.
Here’s a photo of the baby skink I caught yesterday morning while I was walking our dog up in City Park:
Now you know what my hand looks like. Take a moment to admire that love line. It’s extra long. I’ve got a whole lotta love in my heart. It’s all reserved for Frau Schmitt (who is the better half of this operation) and for New Orleans. It’s a 60-20 split. The remaining 20% is reserved for you, dear guest. I pledge to receive you with all mildness to share everything I know about New Orleans with you. We live in a magical city.
You never know what you’re going to find in New Orleans. It could be anything. It could be a taste of Heaven or it could be a sample of Hell. It could be nothing special or relevatory whatsoever, or it could be an epiphany. Whatever it is, it will make an impression on your consciousness and it will make you smile one way or another, happily or ruefully. New Orleans is a city full of surprises.
Woe to those who have never visited New Orleans.
Let New Orleans whisper sweet somethings in your ear…..
What I love about New Orleans, and, believe me, there is plenty to love, is that no day is the same as the day before. Ours is a city built on traditions and routines, but it thrives through improvisation. New Orleans is jazz.
