As you might expect, I think about New Orleans a lot. I mean a lot a lot. Everyone I know does, too. It’s in the air we breath.
Everyone who lives in New Orleans lives here by choice. After Hurricane Katrina, the population was officially zero. People had to make a conscious decision to move back, or like Frau Schmitt and myself, to move here. This is one reason the people who live here care so much about this wonderful city we call home.
Rumors abound about New Orleans. Some of them based on fact but most of them far-fetched and based on nothing more than a wisp of whimsy. When you are here, it will be easier to pin the real New Orleans down, but, even then, ours is a city that can be baffling and bewildering. People say New Orleans is bewitched. That is somewhat true. What is more accurate to say is that New Orleans defies easy descriptions. It is the people who come expecting one thing and then they find another that are bewitched by their own preconceptions——then they don’t what to make of it. New Orleans is neither fish nor fowl, neither heads nor tails, not right and not wrong. New Orleans just is what it is.
Come with an open mind and an open heart. New Orleans has an open spirit. New Orleans is here for you. You’ll see. Anyone bored in New Orleans has a hole in their imagination. Anyone unhappy in New Orleans is unhappy in ways that requires a conversion in their innermost soul. To be unhappy in New Orleans is to be truly, deeply, fundamentally unhappy. A few days in New Orleans can serve as a tonic but they can’t substitute for a prescription drug.
When Frau Schmitt (who is the better half of this operation) and I go out to eat or listen to music or just stroll about and enjoy our city, we bump into other people who live here and guess what we talk about? We talk about New Orleans. New Orleanians talk about New Orleans. We never grow bored with the subject of our meditations.
What is crucial? New Orleans is important. If you live here, it the city is the most important thing of all. We all just pieces of the mosaic puzzle that makes us this wonderful and unique city that is unlike anywhere else on earth. There is no place like New Orleans. You’ll see.
When you are ready to visit our fair and interesting city, you know where you should stay, don’t you? Just plug your dates into our calendar to see what we have available. We only have five suites so only the most microscopic fraction of the 17.5 million people who visit New Orleans every year can have the La Belle Esplanade experience. No one ever says their visit is too long. It is always too short because the longer you are here, the more you’ll realize how much more there is to discover and explore. I always say that five nights is the perfect amount of time to get a satisfying taste of New Orleans. More is always better.
Have a great New Orleans day today! We look forward to meeting you.
