New Orleans Dreams

Even queuing up in line is a pleasure in New Orleans.  New Orleans is the opposite of Soviet Russia.  Even when time stands still in New Orleans, it is pleasantly filled with diversions.  New Orleans dreams.  There is no idle chitchat in New Orleans, no matter how idle everyone seems to be.

New Orleans has a chattering class.  They are all skeletons.  New Orleans is alive.  This is a city in which people press the flesh.  There is no handshake so firm nor so honest as a New Orleans handshake accompanied by an honest and friendly New Orleans smile.  New Orleans is America’s friendliest city.  It may be the most friendly city in the whole world.

New Orleans patois and palaver fill the air like kitchen aromas and trumpet notes.  Everyone in New Orleans likes to talk and talk and talk the way they like to cook and sing and dance to music of their own making.  There is never a dull moment in New Orleans.  There is always something going on.  There is always something to talk about.

New Orleans is never fully asleep.  New Orleans is never fully awake.  A 24-hour city, seven days a week, 365 days a year (366 days every leap year), New Orleans lives like a dream.  Come discover it for yourself.  You’ll pinch yourself to convince yourself that what is happening around you is real.  New Orleans is real.  New Orleans is better than real.

New Orleans is a city of sentiments.
You never know what you’ll find when you turn a corner in New Orleans.

Young New Orleanians, the city’s children, pitter-patter about the city’s playgrounds, whether playing hide-and-seek or whooping it up during pickup basketball matches.  Days go by.  Life goes on.

As their parents work hard to pay the rent or to pay off their mortgage, or to pay off a car note, New Orleans children grow up in a jazz-infused idyll.  These are salad days served up with a side of rich gumbo filé.

New Orleans children wait patiently in line at a snowball stand, or they wait patiently in line for a huckabuck.  The kids jostle each other, they rib each other, they josh each other.  What starts out when we are young gets cemented into our personalities when we grow older.  New Orleans is like no where else in the world.  You have to experience New Orleans first-hand to be able to understand it.  You need to stand in line with a gaggle of native New Orleanians, queuing up for a Tiger’s Blood snowball, to know what it means to be in love with New Orleans.

Visit New Orleans like a New Orleanian.

There is no dream like a New Orleans dream.  Catch the spirit.  New Orleans is full of pleasant surprises.
