The Best Thing About New Orleans.

The best thing about New Orleans is ineffable.  It can be sensed by one’s spirt but it cannot be seen.  Open up your heart and discover what it means to love New Orleans.  Good memories, the best kind, are made on our street.  There is magic in the very air.

The only thing that doesn’t dance in New Orleans is a corpse.

The sun is beautiful the way New Orleans is beautiful.  New Orleans will warm the cockles of your heart.  I was talking to Cindy the other day.  We had bumped into each other in line at the hardware store. She was buying a toilet seat, six 2-inch drywall screws, a handful of washers, and an set of metric Allen wrenches.  I was buying a light buib.  One of my light bulbs had burned out that morning and it needed a speedy replacement.  Cindy told me that the best thing about New Orleans is like a butterfly except that you can’t put a pin through what’s best about this wonderful city we both call home.  Good old Cindy.  She has the soul of a poet.

What does New Orleans have in common with Muhammad Ali?  Both float like butterflies.  Unlike Ali, New Orleans stings like a butterfly, too.

New Orleans and Muhammad Ali shared a lot in common: spirit!
Float like a butterfly sting like a bee.

The best thing about New Orleans is that days go by.  New Orleans days go easily and lazily fluttering by.  Time is both fleeting and rich.  The best memories of all are made in New Orleans.

Sunlight flickers between the live oak leaves and through the Spanish moss on Esplanade Avenue.  Ask a child what he or she desires most in this world and he or she will tell you, though maybe not in so many words, “New Orleans.”  There is magic in the New Orleans air.  What is best about New Orleans is the city’s imminent sense of eminent destiny.

Ask me where I want to live and I’ll tell you that my dreams have already come true.  I already live where I want to.  Frau Schmitt, who is usually right about these things, will tell that I think I am the luckiest man alive.  I live in the 2200 block of Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana, in the U.S. of A.

Every day is a New Orleans parade

You, too, can make La Belle Esplanade your headquarters while you are in New Orleans.  10.5 million people visited New Orleans last year.  We only have five suites.  10.5 million people can’t all be lucky.  We don’t have the space.  Be one of the lucky ones and make a reservation today.

À votre santé,

La Belle Esplanade

#17 inn in the world, #3 in the U.S., #1 in New Orleans.  Good memories are made on our street.

Sunday, February 4, 2018:. 70 balmy degrees today (F) with one week to go until Mardi Gras Day.  There was a dog parade in the French Quarter this afternoon and three big parades on St. Charles Avenue. Mardi Gras is more than one day in New Orleans.  It is a season during which you will never know what’s gonna happen next!  Welcome to the New Orleans state of mind.
