The Meanings Behind Mardi Gras Krewe Names
New Orleans is a city full of traditions and mysterious ways. Mardi Gras in New Orleans can be overwhelming. It is nothing like you imagine. It is nothing like you see on TV. Mardi Gras is a family holiday, a community holiday; the whole city pitches in and celebrates life. When you live in New Orleans, every day is a celebration of life but Mardi Gras season is even more so. Mardi Gras season is New Orleans turned up to 11. The meanings behind Mardi Gras krewe names is incidental.
Don’t think about it too much. We wholeheartedly recommend you visit New Orleans during Mardi Gras season. It’s not about drunk co-eds lifting their shirts on Bourbon Street. That happens on Bourbon Street, of course, but you shouldn’t come here for that. Off Bourbon Street—those are the best parts of Mardi Gras, the best parts of New Orleans culture.
My assistant, Ms. Richardson, and I, recently shot a video about the meaning of Mardi Gras krewe names. I never know what she’s going to ask me when we make these videos. The other day she asked me about the meanings behind Mardi Gras krewe names. I came up with a digressive and discursive answer off the top of my head. There is a lot of New Orleans information stored in my noggin.
All the information that we share with our guests is what has made La Belle Esplanade the #1 rated place to stay in New Orleans since April 2014, according to Trip Advisor, at least. Make a reservation and you be the judge. The “Check Availability” button is in the upper right of this screen. I wanted the button to be blue but I got tired of arguing. The button is black. We only have five suites so we tend to fill up early during busy seasons. Make plans in advance. At La Belle Esplanade, you’ll make good New Orleans memories, the best kind, the kind that will make you smile the rest of your life.
You probably won’t meet Ms. Richardson while you are here. She shows up once or twice a week and we work on New Orleans-related projects that can only be vaguely described, at best, like a scene in an H.P. Lovecraft story but more cheerful—-we live in New Orleans not Arkham. If you want to see what she looks like, study this photo of the private bath in La Belle’s Les Pêches Suite.
