Unsung Hero
Frau Schmitt is the unsung hero of these poems and the better half of this operation. She is going to be unhappy that I posted a public photo of her pretty face. Happiness loves company. Both Frau Schmitt and your humble narrator wish you were here. Happiness loves company. Home is where the heart is and if you are like me, you left your heart in New Orleans.
If you don’t come to New Orleans to leave your heart in the morgue, I know where you should stay instead. It’s a place called La Belle Esplanade. You are on the right website. Check it out. Love where you live, even it if it only for a week.
The parish coroner is our neighbor. Really. I know it sounds surreal but it is true. Truth is stranger than fiction in our part of New Orleans.
Nobody ever says their visit to New Orleans is too long. It is always too short because the longer you are here the more you will discover to explore. There is magic in the very air.
There is a physical New Orleans and there is a New Orleans of the mind. Get the best of both worlds. Frau Schmitt is the better half of this operation. Ask anyone. I am happy to admit it.
Look at this breakfast:
That’s not a third of it. Happiness loves company. When you love where you are, you are always home. It will be nice to share our part of New Orleans with you.
There are angels in the details.
I have no jurisdiction in the kitchen. My job is color commentary. Without Frau Schmitt the whole infrastructure would fall apart. We are an army of two, in the trenches together. Home is where the heart is. We love where we live. You will, too.
If you want to learn about what is like to live in New Orleans, you can visit or you can read. Either is good. Take what you can get.
Sometimes you get Frau Schmitt, a diamond in the rough who is hidden in plain sight.
Sometimes you get your humble narrator, a dandy flaneur oddball immersed in the bowels of New Orleans proper. You never know what he’ll say next. I can’t find the right photo.
You know how yin and yang each contain a little bit of each other in their motive hearts? It takes the best of both worlds to make the whole thing go around. You will enjoy our part of New Orleans. It is the best of both worlds.
Have a great New Orleans day today, wherever you are. If you want a better one, I know where you should stay. You are on the right website.
