Living the NOLA Life
When people come to New Orleans they start to tell Orleanians about the city where they live. They receive a blank look in return.
Other places play a different game than New Orleans plays. It takes a certain kind of person to live a successful NOLA life.
Orleanians will politely listen until you get it out of your system. Yes. Uh-huh. You can tell how things are done other places. Tell us about the great restaurant where you live. It goes in one ear and out the other. We will eventually change the topic to something New Orleans-related. Out-of-sight equals out-of-mind in New Orleans.
Orleanians are busy around-the-clock making good memories. The rest of the world is but a dream.
NOLA loves you.
There are parts of New Orleans you have never seen. Go. Explore. Life is but a dream and the moon is a balloon.
I will meet you for breakfast at Betsy’s Pancake House. George W. Bush ate there. So did Barack Obama. New Orleans is more than the sum of its parts.
The last time I was at Betsy’s Pancake House I sat next to a judge. At the table on the other side was a Louisiana State Representative. Everyone else was just regular joes and janes like you and me. Everyone is welcome everywhere in New Orleans. You belong here.
The more authentic New Orleans you soak up, the happier you will be. There is more than Bourbon Street. We live in a real city. We are looking forward to meeting you.
If you would like to get a little New Orleans in your inbox just about everyday, you can subscribe to a very interesting Substack newsletter. I know the guy who writes it. He thinks he’s a genius. He’s not but he does know what it is like to live in New Orleans, first person.
