There is intellectual New Orleans and it is married to the New Orleans of the heart.  Every day in New Orleans is full of the stuff from which rainbows are crafted.  Every day in New Orleans is good.  Close your eyes.  Can you feel a real New Orleans state of mind taking hold of you right now?

When you catch a wish on the fly, unexpectedly, you won’t keep it.  You will help make someone else’s wish come true, too.  That is New Orleans in a nutshell.

Are you an explorer?  New Orleans is a passion play of myriad delights and hurdles.  You know what they say, “Lucky in love, lucky in New Orleans.”  Most times everything works out just right.  Ask anyone who has lived in New Orleans for ten years or more, or, ask any child.  Home is where the heart is.

If you are afraid of uncertainty, there are tombs all over New Orleans.  You can’t miss them.

If you want self-discovery, there are churches and barrooms in every neighborhood.  Psychics, palm readers, card readers, empaths, and mystics set up tables in front of the cathedral all hours of the day and night.  Appointments aren’t necessary to meet your destiny in New Orleans.  Whatever happens is meant to be.

Being an adult means making choices and living with the consequences.  When New Orleans calls, you have to decide if you want to answer.  It isn’t a question of nature vs. nurture.  It’s a question of whether or not you feel truly alive.

We are all skeletons on the inside.  In a New Orleans state of mind, it’s what we do with ourselves outside that counts.  Being good is the highest calling.  The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.  Follow your muse and dance like nobody is watching.

Be careful what you wish for.  Once you’ve caught the New Orleans bug it’ll be tougher to shake than the corona virus.  New Orleans is a tough nut to crack, unless you happen to get a bag of Jumbo Peanuts.  Everything works out in the end.  To know New Orleans is to love it.

The foundation of New Orleans is truth in all its manifestations and fields.  We live in a city built on miles of mud.  Everything settles cockeyed, which is why we keep our eyes on the prize.  Knowing what it just is what makes us New Orleanians.  The motto of the great State of Louisiana is this:  Union. Justice. Confidence.  They are words to live by every day and in every way.  Welcome to the New Orleans state of mind.
